Moving images + virtual reality realness

Siciliana Trevino is an award-winning filmmaker, director and editor.

Her Kickstarter-funded documentary, New Mo’ Cut David Peoples’s lost film of Moe’s Books has screened at festivals including the 2016 Mill Valley Film Festival, and won best editing at the 2015 Filmstock Festival.

She is a Berkeley-based, Bay Area native and received her BFA in Film/Video from CalArts.

“With New Mo’ Cut I was struck by the romance of making a film about a film about a bookstore. The story is a reminder that beauty and value are in the eyes of the beholder and how serendipity can occur anywhere, at any time, and interconnect lives in deeply meaningful ways.”

Siciliana is currently producing her first 360/VR music video app with renowned electric Sitar player, Gabby La La, and her femme fatal, psychedelic-punk band, Snow Angel.

Together they raised $10,000 on Kickstarter to fund the completion of the band’s debut album and the production of Snow Angel VR – a trip through four of their quirky music videos, including “We Love”  filmed by Trevino, and pioneering 360 filmmaker Kevin Kunze.

The app also features original album art from Bud Snow.

“VR and 360 filmmaking is the dawn of spherical media. It’s, Lights! Camera! Hide!

The fourth wall is gone, pushing the director to be more of an influencer and designer. The headset turns audiences into “users”, who experience stories rather than passively watching them.

It’s exciting how music is the perfect marriage of all of these components, especially with the sound that Snow Angel has. They really play off of each other. It’s all about having fun and being able to express this magic.”

Siciliana demos the app on Gear VR at Snow Angel shows throughout the Bay Area including The Starry Plough, The Uptown, and The Rickshaw Stop.

In December of 2015 Siciliana started Berkeley’s first Virtual Reality Meetup, OffPlanet VR.

OffPlanet VR is Berkeley’s VR demo scene bringing together renowned industry pioneers, developers, artists and students to explore the latest VR and AR tech through hands-on demos and lightening talks.

She is a compelling national speaker and panelist on independent VR production, and has appeared on VR panels at Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing and WeCode Harvard.
